This programme is aimed at individuals who may be interested in pursuing a career within the health and social care sector. It focuses on developing skills and knowledge that are necessary for working in the care industry.

Course Details and Content
On this course you will learn how to provide care for people who have additional social, physical and emotional needs. This will involve looking at the issues that affect the person requiring care, such as illness, disability, or mobility, and then finding ways you can support and help them. This might be through preparing food, managing medicines, or helping around the house. You will also look at the many different settings for care, which can include a residential centre or a person's home.

You will complete four mandatory units:

You will then complete another selection of specialist units from a choice of:

How will it be delivered?
The qualification includes two externally-assessed units - Human Lifespan and Healthy Living. These are paper based 60 minute examinations and can be taken in January and/or June, you will have the opportunity to retake in June.
The remaining units are internally assessed and you will develop a wide range of skills and provide evidence towards meeting the unit assessment criteria. Evidence for assessment can be generated through a range of activities, including role play, practical performance and verbal presentations and may include:

audio-visual recordings of portfolio, sketchbook, a working logbook etc.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements however the qualification is aimed at level 2 learners

Qualifications:
BTEC First Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care

This qualification will provide the knowledge, skills and understanding for Level 2 learners to progress to:

other Level 2 vocational qualifications and related competence-based qualifications for the Health and Social Care sector

Level 3 vocational qualifications, such as BTEC Nationals, Level 3 in Health and Social Care or Level 3 National in Children's Play, Learning and Development

academic qualifications, such as GCSE in Health and Social Care, or Design and Technology: Food Technology
-
employment within the health and social care sector such as junior roles, or as an apprentice.

Learners who achieve the qualification at Level 1 may progress to the Level 2 Certificate or Extended Certificate, or to academic or other vocational Level 2 qualifications
