Trans4m was established in February 2013 with the aim of providing vocational training for 14-19 year olds in Leicester. We initially offered accredited Level 1 training through Edexcel in Construction, Hair and Beauty and Hospitality, alongside Functional Skills. Our Café and commercial Salon allow us to offer quality work experience to compliment these courses. In our first year we worked with a number of schools, support agencies and achieved the Investor’s in People quality award.

In 14-15, our second year, we upgraded our workshops to offer Level 2 training in Construction and Hairdressing, providing a progression for our students and improving their job prospects. As part of our commitment to improving our students’ literacy and numeracy we delivered GCSEs in Maths and English, providing an academic alternative to functional skills. Our client group expanded considerably as we worked with 100+ students from schools and behaviour partnerships across the city and county. Our achievement rates were above 90% in all areas and we built a reputation for making positive changes in some of the most challenging young people in the area.

In 15-16, aim to further improved our provision by re-developing our Café facility into a new classroom and a student-only canteen. This allows us to respond to the huge demand for a Level 1 Childcare qualification, which has been a huge success. We can also now provide a youth-friendly area in which our students can eat, relax and socialise during breaks from training.

Moving into the next academic year, we are very busy this summer preparing a new Student Support Facility to act as a hub for our support workers to engage with students. This will provide a relaxed, informal area where students can discuss issues and work towards resolving any barriers to education they are facing. We are also carrying out a large scale improvement to our construction department, creating three separate departments for Bricklaying, Painting and Decorating, Carpentry and Joinery. We are recruiting additional staff and look forward to another successful year.
